Description
The third version of the RUK keeps the simplicity of the original RUK/RUK-V2 and RUK-S but combines the most used features of the V2 into the solid single piece frame of the RUK-S. The RUK-V3 comes in both left and right handed versions so the lefties are not left out again.
• Pry bar (Aluminum and Brass is for Light Duty tasks)
• Bottle opener/Cap lifter
• 1/4″ hex for driver bits
• 2-56 threaded holes for pocket clip attachment. Any Spyderco Paramilitary 2 pocket clip should bolt right up with the 2 holes
• No disassembly required for cleaning and care, Just remove the blade
I carry a knife on me every day and I had noticed I mainly use it for small things like opening boxes and such. I rarely use the entire edge of a blade and that is why I decided to design and build the RUK.
The body of the RUK is CNC machined out of either 6061-T6 aluminum with a color anodizing, 360 Brass or 6al4V (Grade 5) Titanium. It is so slim and light you can’t even tell it is in your pocket!

I searched high and low for a “upscale” utility knife made out of quality materials that could accept universal utility blades. The other hurtle was that I had to search for a model that is made for left handers. There are so many utility knives (as well as in the pocket knife world) out there made SOLELY for right handers, and anyone who’s left handed can basically go kick rocks. I was very pleased to see Giltek decided not to ignore the left handed population like the plague, and deliver a product that could be operated fully with the left hand. I decided to go with the bare titanium model, and I can say the material is extremely light weight and strong; great for throwing in the pants pocket or my t-shirt’s front pocket. Sliding the utility blade out was a bit sticky at first, but I believe fully this is based on the model/material of the utility blade, and not the titanium frame. I switched the included “black/powder coated” Tajima blade with a smoother “non-coated” Lenox Gold and I have to say I noticed immediately it was much smoother to retract and draw. The finger grooves on the bottom are a nice touch, as if this were just smooth/flat it would slip or lose grip. This is also improved upon with the top “jimping” for your thumb. Another thing I really love is if you flip the frame/Ruk to the other side, there is a little milling cutout window where you can see the notch and which hole its connecting to on the utility knife blade. I like this feature a lot as before I cut, and can flip it over and check to make sure the utility blade is connected/attached correctly; it just gives me peace of mind that it snapped in to the hole properly and wont disconnect or retract during cutting. I like the bottle opener; believe me I’ve had a bottle and had no bottle opener and it sucks big time trying to get it open. The cutout in the frame for a bit driver I cant really see myself using, as if I have a bit, usually a drill or screwdriver are next to them but some may find this useful. I am really happy with the inclusion of the drilled and tapped screw holes for pocket clips as I have many Lynch Northwest clips on my pocket knives but to be able to attach to a utility blade is a great inclusion. Pry-bar and lanyard hole are small additives but are also great and aren’t obtrusive. Overall I’m a huge fan based on the fact they cater to the left handed market ALONE, but the product and materials are great additions. I will be looking into the plastic/FRN Ruks for friends and family.

I love my Brass v3 Model! I’ve purchased many of these utility blade holders and this one is on another tier in terms of quality and sleek looking functionality. Great attention was paid to the design. I purchased a Spyderco Clip separately to install and (after I dremel tooled the bolts to be shorter) , it tightened right in. Keep in mind most of those pocket clips have a 3 hole design, so one of my clip bolts were rendered obsolete – but that’s no big deal. I’d recommend this pocket tool to anyone who wants minimalist functionality that will turn a few heads. I have an anodized blue clip and a gold American flag themed utility blade on mine and the combination is wonderful. Hope this review helps someone pull the trigger! thanks Giltek – I’ve purchased my 2nd V3 Ruk for a present for my brother and also got a RAW for myself
